‘Transparent as glass’

The 2027 United Reformed Church Calendar is titled 鈥楾ransparent as glass鈥� and will feature stained glass windows and glass sculptures from our churches and Local Ecumenical Partnerships.

From the verse in Revelation 21, transparent as glass is one part of the symbolic imagery used to describe the glory of the New Jerusalem 鈥� God bringing heaven to earth, describing what life with God is like: God鈥檚 limitless provision and creative power, where power and wealth no longer define worth, a place beautiful beyond imagination which is open and welcoming for the restored people of God.

Glass has been used in churches since the 7th century for visual storytelling and religious education, acting as colourful 鈥減icture books鈥� for illiterate congregations to learn Bible stories and for Christian teachings. Stained glass also creates a sacred atmosphere by focussing light for worship and enhancing our churches鈥� architectural beauty.

We invite you to send in your photos of large and small windows, as well as any sculptures made from, or including, glass.

Image specifications

• Landscape photos are preferred, but square and portrait images are also invited
• Images in either JPG or PNG file format
• Image should, ideally be no bigger than 3600 pixels wide (which should be around 3Mb).

Please include the name of the church and the photographer.

Please note, for all photos submitted, the photographer is granting the 缅北强奸 permission to use the photographs in print and digitally.

The deadline for submitting your photos is June 5 2026.

The calendar will be available on the from August, and is once again generously supported by Edwards Insurance.
