A prayer for Derby
Almighty Lord, loving Son and living Spirit — our God, three in one,
We ask you to be with the people of Derby today as they try to understand the reasons that led to the events that have caused serious injury and distress.
We pray for the seven people who have been injured. May your healing touch be with them, their families and friends.
We pray for the many people who were enjoying the pubs and clubs along Friar Gate at the time, and for the witnesses who watched the scene unfold. May you give them strength in the days ahead.
We pray for those who helped at the scene whilst waiting for the emergency services. May you offer reassurance that they did everything they could.
We thank you for the emergency services and all they have done, and will continue to do, to bring help and justice to our city.
At this time, we do not know much about the driver of the car, and yet presumption and hatred have already begun to surface.
We pray for calm during this time of investigation, and for people to withhold judgement and reject hatred.
We pray that you would soften people’s hearts and help them remember that our first thoughts should be with those who have suffered.
Lord, be with every person in our city.
Be with the injured, those who witnessed events unfold, and the emergency services.
Be with those who are experiencing hostility and fear.
Let your peace flow.
Amen
